Hiking season is upon us and did you know there’s a hidden walking trail right in the middle of lower Westchester?
I love hiking. I love being outdoors after spending all week sitting at a desk in the office. I love getting up early, enjoying the quietness of the suburbs and taking in a little bit of nature
But I hate driving so far to do it. I still don’t drive. I moved back to Westchester a year and a half ago and I’ve driven a car maybe 5 times. I just don’t like it and it’s the only way to get to a decent trail. Well it was the only way until I found a little hidden gem right in my neighborhood.
I always noticed the little blue marker with a ring of stars while driving down Weaver street but never really thought much about it. It was probably some town thing that I never cared to google so I ignored it while sitting comfortably in the passenger seat (obviously) and went on with my life.
One day we stopped to let a man walking his dogs cross the street and I was suddenly curious. Where was this man going? There were no sidewalks over here and it’s a bit dangerous to walk your dogs down the road with cars whizzing past you, no? I kept my eyes on him as he crossed the street and disappeared into the trees on the other side. It was a walking trail! I obviously went the next morning to check out the trail on my own.
Now there arent the breath taking views that you’d get from Mohonk and you won’t be rappelling down mountains but it’s still a great walk. The trail is very well kept and if you’re into the fitness thing, you can definitely get a good run in!
I searched quite a bit for amap online but after coming up short I decided to use Map My Run and draw it out for you, check it out below! See you on the trails!
